How old does your child need to be to join the swim team? Are there any other requirements? What if my child is learning how to swim?
Your child must be 18 years or younger. If they are in the "six years old and under" division, they must be able to swim at least a half lap. If they are seven years or older, they must be able to swim a complete lap. In the issue of safety, we cannot make exceptions to this rule. Every child must be able to safely swim the required distance for their age group before being allowed to join the swim team. If you aren't sure about your child's swimming abilities, just ask the coaches.
The age brackets that the children swim in are:
-
Six and under...
-
7 & 8 yr old
-
9 & 10 yr old
-
11 & 12 yr old
-
13 & 14 yr old
-
15 -18 yr old

Nick Trueman
Hello Silverton Swim Team! My name is Nick Trueman and I am extremely excited to be the Head Coach of the Sharks this year! I am currently a fourth grade teacher at Fuller Elementary where I have been teaching for five years. I love my job and the excitement and joy it brings everyday. I am currently on my school’s Leadership Team, School Improvement Team and I run the Data Team. In the mornings, I tutor four students in math and then run a mentoring program after school on Wednesdays. I currently live in Holly Springs with my wife, Katie, and our new addition, (future shark) Jack Thomas, who was born in December. I cannot tell you how excited I am to be the new coach of the Silverton Swim Team. Swimming has always been a major part of my life. I grew up with a pool in my backyard and quickly joined the local swim team at the age of five. I continued swimming year round through high school. After moving to Raleigh, I started swimming on my own at the local gym before joining the Raleigh Masters swimming program. They had meets monthly throughout North Carolina. It was in the next season that I found my true passion, triathlons. Triathlons have been a great reason to continue swimming and to travel across the state. I hope you are as excited about this summer as I am. I look forward to having efficient, challenging and fun practices and victories on Tuesday nights! You can reach Nick at

Annah Riedel
Hey! I'm Coach Annah. I'm looking forward to spending another summer at the pool. This will be my third year coaching at Silverton; however, I have been on the team since I was five years old. Swimming started off as a thing to do in the summer and eventually became the most dominant part of my life. I swam for YOTA for 10 years and I had great coaches that always pushed me. I feel that being a coach is the best way I can give back to kids. I'm really passionate about swimming and I hope that coaching, will help others to learn to love the sport as much as I do now. I was a mentor on the swim team starting at the age of 12 and did that for three summers. Getting involved is the best way to become excited about any program. A little about bit about my future plans, next year I will be attending North Carolina State University. I plan on being an elementary educator and I'm also going to become a part of a program called SAY at NCSU, which is Students Advocating for Youth. I hope that if you have any questions about me, that you will email me. Again, I'm looking forward to another great season, and hope that the kids are too! Thanks. You can contact Annah at
